Gamified visuomotor adaptation
Previous research showed that humans can rapidly adapt movements to adjust for changing feedback. There is a discussion what part of this adaptation is conscious adjustment and what is implicit. The first one is context-dependent, and the second one is transferrable between context and tasks. Full body illusion: perceiving self out of own body based on visual-haptic experience.
Full body illusion is an extended version of a rubber hand illusion. When one observes self through a camera and at the same time sees and feels an experimenter touch on a shoulder or back, one might shift the perception of self from towards the viewed body. What is your hand doing when nobody sees it?
We have a clear sense of where our limbs are in space. Is it, however, possible to shape the spatial representation of our hand? A major advantage of using a virtual reality setup is that we can create an illusion by establishing a discrepancy between perceived proprioceptive and visual information. How is the clock in your brain ticking?
If you want to grasp a moving target, you not only have to predict the future positions of the object but also when and to which location you have to perform an arm movement. We dig a little bit deeper into how time is coded in the brain to fulfil this action.
